Empire Building & Troops

Empire Strategy Map

Strategic Expansion

Conquest follows a classic, Risk-based approach. You command armies across a divided map, claiming adjacent territories to expand your borders. Rather than moving troops peacefully between friendly territories, your armies are permanently stationed where they stand. To attack a rival province, you must launch your invasion from a bordering territory that you already control.

Garrison & Rebellion

Ruling a kingdom requires an iron grip. A skeleton garrison is not enough to maintain order in newly conquered lands. If you leave a territory with fewer than three soldiers stationed to guard it, the local peasantry will grow bold, and their loyalty will rapidly deteriorate. If loyalty reaches zero, a violent rebellion will spark, overthrowing your rule and replacing your forces with a hostile rebel militia.

Troop Management

The War Machine

A true king must balance the royal treasury with military might. Gold is the lifeblood of your empire, generated each season by the territories you hold. With this gold, you can recruit three distinct types of forces to bolster your garrisons or lead your invasions:

  • Soldiers: The backbone of any army. Cheap, reliable infantry necessary to hold territory and prevent rebellions.
  • Knights: Elite heavy cavalry. Expensive, but their devastating power in open combat can break the lines of far larger infantry forces.
  • Catapults: Essential siege engines. Useless in a skirmish, but absolutely critical for shattering fortified castle walls before an assault.

Diplomacy & Espionage

Diplomacy Screen

Expansion is not just won with swords. A wise ruler leverages the political map. You can dispatch envoys to offer gold to rival lords, securing Non-Aggression Pacts to safely turn your back on them, or deploy your spymaster to sabotage their fortifications before you march.

Tournaments & Events

The Grand Tournament

The Joust

Rival lords will frequently invite you to test your mettle in the Grand Tournament. The joust requires steady hands and perfect timing.

  • The Mechanic: Drag your lance to aim as your warhorse charges forward. The enemy grows larger as they approach, shifting your target window.
  • The Strike: Striking the center-right (their shield) shatters your lance for a glorious victory, increasing your Leadership stat. A strike to the body is a tie. Missing entirely results in defeat.
  • The Disgrace: Do not let your lance drop! Striking the opponent's horse will result in absolute disgrace, causing your vassals to abandon you and stripping you of all conquered lands.

The Castle Siege

Castle Siege

Attacking a fortified territory triggers a physics-based siege. Fortifications provide a massive defensive advantage to the garrison unless they are destroyed.

  • The Mechanic: You command a catapult. Drag backward anywhere on the screen to pull the arm back, calculating your trajectory and power, and release to launch a boulder.
  • The Goal: You must strike the castle wall repeatedly to reduce its HP to zero before the time limit expires.
  • The Result: If the wall shatters, the enemy loses their massive defensive multiplier for the subsequent battle. If you run out of ammo or time, your infantry will be forced to assault the intact walls.

Castle Raids & Duels

Sword Combat

Whether you are rescuing a kidnapped damsel or engaging in a desperate raid, single combat is ruthless and fast-paced.

  • The Mechanic: You have three stamina points and must choose between Striking, Parrying, or Retreating to regain stamina.
  • The Rhythm: The enemy AI will telegraph their attacks. If they prepare to strike, you must Parry. If they raise their guard to parry, you must hold your attack or risk being countered.
  • The Result: Deplete the enemy's HP before the clock runs out to secure victory, gold, and increased martial skills.

The Spymaster's Work

Gold can fund dark deeds. Dispatching your spymaster allows you to execute three distinct covert operations against rival lords, each triggering a unique challenge.

Sabotage
Garrison Sabotage
Destroy enemy catapults and knights before a battle. You must hold the screen to dash your spy forward, but freeze instantly when the patrolling guard turns to look.
Heist
Royal Heist
Steal 25% of a rival lord's treasury. Time your strikes perfectly to pick the fast-spinning tumblers of the royal vault. Three missed strikes will shatter your pick and trigger the alarms.
False Flag
False Flag Forgery
Forge treacherous letters to ruin a rival's relations with the entire realm. You are shown a royal seal for a fraction of a second. You must rely on your memory to select the exact matching seal from a grid of complex forgeries before time runs out.

Courtly Romance

Securing a marriage to one of the five Ladies of the court guarantees a permanent, unbreakable alliance with her associated Lord.

Romance
  • The Garden Stealth: Once a Lady is intrigued, she will invite you to the royal gardens. You must navigate a grid to reach her balcony while dodging the moving sightlines of the castle guards.
  • The Chamber: In her private chambers, you must carefully read her mood and dialogue, selecting the correct sequence of romantic actions to win her heart. One wrong move will break the tension and cost you her affection.
